Planning a trek? Don’t leave it to chance. Our trekking essentials checklist ensures you pack just what you need for Himalayan treks—no fluff, no forgotten gear—so you stay focused on what matters.

This is a list of essential items for individuals doing the trek with Bikat Adventures. This list contains only those items that the participants are required to bring with them. The list excludes those items that are provided by Bikat Adventures on the trek. We have divided the items into five categories. All the items in the list are essential except for those marked as optional.

TREKKING GEAR

1. Rucksack (60–70 L) with rain cover – 1 — Your primary gear haul.

2. Daypack (25–35 L) – 1 — Keep summit day essentials easy to access.

3. Headlamp + extra batteries – 1

4. UV protection sunglasses – 1 (Here is how to choose the best sunglasses for trekking.)

5. Water bottles (1 L each) – 2 — Stay hydrated at altitude.

FOOTWEAR

1. Trekking boots, high-ankle, grippy soles – 1

2. Lightweight sandals/slippers – 1 — Perfect for camp and recovery.

CLOTHING (Layered System)

1. Quick-dry track pants – 2

2. Warm base/sweat layers – enough for trek duration (1 per 2 days)

3. Wool socks – 1 pair per 2 days

4. Thermals (top & bottom) – 1 set

5. Waterproof jacket/pants – 1

6. Insulating jacket – fleece or down – 1

7. Warm gloves + hat + sun hat – 1 each

PERSONAL & SAFETY

1. Toiletry kit + towel + toilet paper + sanitizer
2. Sunscreen + lip balm (SPF) (Read: Sun Protection 101)
3. Basic first aid kit (plasters, antiseptic, blister patches)

MISCELLANEOUS

1. Trekking poles (foldable) – optional but highly recommended
2. Camera/power bank – optional
3. Trail snacks – dates, nuts, energy bars
4. Prescription meds + altitude-specific meds (consult your doctor)
