While underwater, since your mask is surrounded by moisture, it could get foggy. Due to this reason, masks are defogged using defog liquid prior to the dive. However, it is quite common for the mask to fog regardless of the defogging. In such situations, divers resort to removing their mask and putting it back on. This skill is quite similar to a fully flooded mask clearance. This article will provide a guide to how one can perform mask removal and replacement. Don’t worry! This is something that you will be taught in confined water or pool training.

Steps to Follow

Step 1:

Remove your mask and hold on to it while breathing through your regulator. Tilt your head to either side to ensure that the bubbles from your regulator do not come right into your face.

Step 3:

Once you place your mask back on, your mask is in a fully flooded state. You can now perform the steps to clear your mask by inhaling through the regulator and exhaling from your nose. Repeat the process until your mask is fully clear.
