HAMPTA PASS: 5 THINGS THAT WILL LEAVE YOU WONDERSTRUCK
Hampta Pass’ beauty makes it one of India’s most popular treks, and now that I have been to Hampta Pass, I can say that it has indeed earned the hype and popularity. It walks the walk and talks the talk.
Truly, the whole trek leaves you wonderstruck with its tremendous beauty, but here is a list of 5 things that will definitely trigger the travel itch to take up this trek:
1. Hanging Valley
The valley view will leave you astounded on the first day of the trek itself. A short walk from Jobra village through dense mixed forest and the view opens up to grassland surrounded by huge rock mountains playing hide and seek with the clouds.
2. Stream crossing and waterfalls
Hampta pass is famous for its stream crossing experience. There are more than 10 stream crossings, most of which are easy and can be done by hopping over rocks, 2 of them are going to make you cry because you have to cross them barefoot, yes!! Be ready to get brain freeze whilst you cross these streams of glacier water, bare feet, at the wee hours of the day.
3. Wide range of Flowers
Flowers are one such species on Earth in which every variety is beautiful. There is nothing ‘ugly’ when it comes to blooming flowers. Keep your eyes open and be attentive while trekking because you are going to spot some of the most beautiful wildflowers in this valley. You name any colour and you will find a flower for it, yellow, blue, orange, red, pink, purple, white... I found flowers of all the colours and they literally made my trip.
4. Walking on a snow pass and snow bridge
You may have earlier experiences of snowfall and walking on snow, but this one is different. Here you walk right on top of a stream, covered with a thick layer of snow and ice and you can hear the sound of stream gushing down beneath your feet. One wrong step, and your feet will land 1 ft deep into the snow. You will see many such holes on the snow bridge placed by other travellers who made the mistake of stepping at the wrong point. So be careful!
5. Some Yoga Poses at Chandratal Lake
Chandratal Lake got its name because of its half-moon-like shape. Its turquoise color water and the surrounding landscape attract thousands of tourists each year. Chandratal lake is an absolute must-visit when in Spiti, and what better time to do it than along with the Hampta Pass trek?
During the last day of the trek, you start descending from Sheagoru early in the morning and reach Chattru by 11:00 am to spend rest of your time exploring the Chandratal lake. Let yourself go crazy here. Click some weird photos against the stellar background, or find an isolated corner and enjoy the surreal beauty. Let the magic of the place do its work on you.
